JOHN EATWELL
Recently at a planning session, people talked a bit about their backgrounds and it was interesting to hear how many people said luck or good fortune had a part to play with where they have arrived at. Indeed, Kerr Inkson from University of Auckland talks about the randomness of career journeys. I like to think of it as ‘chance favours only the prepared mind’ (Pascal).

Gretchen M McFadden
Having always been fascinated by human performance, Gretchen first studied psychology straight out of high school. However, after only one year she put her studies on hold to take up an offer of ski instructing in Canada. This, along with travelling the world increased Gretchen’s fascination with performance and in particular, why some people outperform others, even when natural ability is not on their side. Working in large organisations whilst travelling she also developed an interest in organisational performance and the inextricable link with their employees’ mind-set.
